Micro USB Chargers

Micro USB was the standard when it comes to connector docks for small devices, however now the standard charger is moving to USB type C. Chances are, if you have a mobile phone, camera or tablet that isn't an Apple proprietary device, you'll see the small polygon shaped hole, with a wider bottom receptacle and its connector pin ready and waiting for you to plug in your charger or data cable.

The Micro USB is based off the USB (or Universal Serial Bus) industry-standard technology made available in the mid 1990s for computing devices. The standard defines the communication made available to connect computer peripherals - and hence define data transfer as well as power devices. You'll be used to the large USB connectors and ports that come standard with PCs.

After the clunky USB was deemed inappropriate for small devices, engineers came up with the Mini USB. This technology offered a smaller connector but was deemed to be mechanically flawed - it only offered a small limited number of insertion/reinsertions before it degraded.

Micro USB

And so, electronics engineers came up with the Micro USB. The Micro USB charger connector offers over 10 000 possible reliable insertions, a fair step up from the 1000 offered by the original Micro USB type.

Micro USB cables, cords and devices keep up with the latest USB standards. That means your phone that runs USB 2.0 can still use a USB 3.1 cable - however it won't achieve the speeds of data transfer (or charge rate) that a USB 3.1 cable is capable of. The best choice to make when choosing a USB device, charger, or data cable is to choose one with the highest current standard. At present that is USB 3.1. USB 3.1 comes standard with current chargers, cords and devices. It offers data transfer at up to 10Gbps and offers powers of up to 3A with up to a 5V connection. You can read more about the Micro USB Specification here.

Selecting A Micro USB Charger

When choosing a micro USB charger to use with your phone, tablet or device these numbers are important. To get the quickest charge for your device, you generally want a product that offers a higher amplitude (A) out. You'll have your voltage (V) coming in from your power supply, which, depending on whether it's a car, an Australian plug, or an internationals main supply, will have a different voltage in to the charger. The voltage available from the power source times the amplitude will give you the watts available to power your device.

When looking at a micro USB mains charger for purchase you'll need to decide if you want a multi-port charger, which gives you the option of charging multiple devices at once. This option is very handy considering how many devices we all have around the home and office that use the Micro USB charging connector. You'll also need to see if it comes with the Micro USB cable already attached or if you need to buy it separately. Often, a data cable with Micro USB one end and regular USB (UAB A) at the other end comes standard when you purchase your device which you can then use with the Micro USB charger. You'll want to also decide whether you need a multi-voltage charger if you intend to use it overseas, so as not to ruin your device.

When choosing a micro USB car charger, all these things, bar the international capabilities also need to be taken into account. There are car chargers that have Micro USB cables with an extra USB port for other devices to plug in.

A micro USB charger that has more than one port is generally a good investment, as well as one that has a higher amplitude out for a faster charge.

If you're after a faster charge, or a quicker data connection, it's time to upgrade your accessories. That old charger from 10 years ago is only doing yourself a disservice, so upgrade today to stop wasting your time!

Reversible Micro USB Chargers

A reversible micro USB charger is a charging device with a connector that is reversible, allowing it to be connected in either orientation. This makes it easier and faster to plug a device into a charger without having to worry about which side of the plug should face up. Reversible micro USB chargers are available in wall plugs, car chargers and power banks, making them a versatile and convenient way to keep your devices powered up on the go.

A reversible micro usb charger can be used to charge any device that uses micro usb charging.

There are many benefits to using a reversible micro USB charger. The most obvious benefit is that it's much easier to connect your device to the charger since you don't have to worry about which way the plug is facing. This can save you time and frustration, especially when you're in a hurry. Additionally, reversible micro USB chargers are often more compact than traditional chargers, making them more convenient to carry with you when you're on the go.
