The HTC Velocity is Australia’s first 4G smartphone and has a 4.5 inch touch screen, a 1.5 GHz dual core processor for fast multi-tasking, an 8 megapixel camera and utilizes Google’s Android operating system.
The HTC Velocity, when in 4G coverage areas, will deliver typical download speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 40Mbps. This is up to five times faster than other fast 3G handsets. Even when in 3G coverage this handset is up to 3 times as quick as other current mobile phones.
The phone runs on Telstra’s 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) network on the 1800MHz spectrum, and When not inside 4G coverage areas the Velocity 4G switches onto Telstra’s 3G network.
Talk time is estimated to be 310 minutes on 3G, and 248 hours on standby for 3G.

The HTC Velocity 4G will be available for $0 upfront on Telstra’s $79 Freedom Connect Plan after using the MRO Bonus that comes with the 79 Freedom Connect plan. This plan also includes $800 worth of included calls and MMS, unlimited SMS to Australian mobiles and 2GB of data all to standard Australian numbers (excludes use overseas) each month. The minimum cost over 24 months is $1,896.
