Telstra have bitten the bullet and decided to amp up their prepaid offerings in the form of the Telstra T80 Evolution. While in the past they have typically gone down the path of a lighter weight prepaid phone, the Telstra Evolution T80 is a fully fledged 4GX (that is 4G but with an added boost – the X – for coverage in buildings) capable Android device that is not only on par with some of the more well known contract handsets, but at the cost of just $129, makes putting an all-around performance handset attainable by just about anyone.
The other exciting thing that the Telstra Evolution T80 has is the Telstra Blue Tick which signifies that Telstra recommends the phone for use in regional and rural areas, places where oftentimes coverage can be patchy at best. Being a 4GX device means this phone can operate on the 4G 700MHz frequencies and the Evolution is Telstra’s first 4GX capable prepaid mobile. Telstra’s 4GX network offers up to 150Mbps downlink speeds.
The Telstra Evolution runs Android 4.4 KitKat, so you can say “OK Google” to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song. This smartphone is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon quad core CPU with 1GB RAM and internal memory is 4GB but you can add to this by up to 32GB with a microSD memory card for external storage. Bluetooth, Wifi and Gps are also features of tis phone.
The 5 megapixel rear camera has digital zoom and there is a 0.3MP Front facing camera for selfies. Video recording is at 30 fps @ 720p. The T80 does not have an external antenna port.
