If your phone is an iPhone…
Clean up your phone. Go through and delete all your unwanted photos, videos, text messages, apps and content. Make sure to go into your browser and clean up the cookies too. It may be tedious, but you wouldn’t live in a house full of garbage would you? Your phone feels the same way.
Use Battery Doctor. This app is free and helps to reallocate memory on your iPhone. Use it when you need an extra boost, or your phone is feeling sluggish.
The Fix-All Solution. When in doubt, the simplest option is often the best one. How often do keep your phone running? Days at a time? More? To free up your memory and start from the beginning again just turn off your iPhone, wait the obligatory 10 seconds to ensure everything’s shut down, and then turn it back on again.
If you’ve got an Android…
Clean up your phone. That includes going through both your SD card memory and your phone memory and deleting any files (photos, videos, documents, etc) that you no longer need. Go through and uninstall all the apps you no longer want, then move all your apps from your phone memory to your SD card memory to clear up space on your phone.
Root your Android device. Rooting can give you access to apps you aren’t able to get, apps that are generally incompatible and exclusive features. Once rooted, you can try apps like SetCPU, which can set your CPU’s clock speed to make it go faster, or Greenify, which hibernates background running apps.
Enable Developer Options. This one’s a quick one. Go into your Setting menu on your Android and find “About phone”. In this submenu you’ll see a section for Build number. Tap on this section seven times which will enable Developer options. Go back one menu level and you’ll now see Developer Options listed. Under this submenu change your settings for Windows animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animator animation scale to .5x (by default they’re set at 1x). Enjoy an extra speed boost.
