Samsung Launches Its 2019 Galaxy A Series Phones

By John Hansen

Samsung launched four new Galaxy phones back in May 2019, all available in Australia. These are the Galaxy A20, A30, A50, and A70 phones. According to Samsung, this line of phones is meant to “provide industry-wide innovations starting from the mid-tier portfolio” and improve on the features in a phone that matter the most, for example, the screen, battery, and camera. Update: Samsung has released their 2020 A series smartphones. See our full article on Samsung’s 2020 Galaxy A series phones and Samsung’s 2021 Galaxy A Series.

What is the Galaxy A series?

The 2019 Galaxy A phone line’s main purpose is to provide features of the more expensive Galaxy S phones at a fraction of the price.  According to DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, “People are changing the way they connect, and their smartphones need to keep up. Our new Galaxy A Series offers improvements to the essential features that will support these live interactions, with diverse options to meet their ever-changing needs.” Source Samsung.

What is the difference between Samsung Galaxy S Series and A Series?

While the Galaxy A series of phones have quite a few of the S series features and designs, not everything from the more expensive phones is present. For example, the Galaxy A phones are not waterproof/water resistant nor do they have wireless charging. Like the S series, however, these phones have access to Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Bixby, Face Unlock, and more.

Which is the best phone in the Samsung Galaxy A series?

The Galaxy A70 is the top of the line phone in the Galaxy A series. For a deeper look into what the phone provides, read below for what both the A70 and the other phones in the line provide.

Galaxy A70

Sasmung Galaxy A70As mentioned, the Galaxy A70 is the big brother of the bunch of phones released this year and is available for $649. It wields the largest screen of any of the A series phones with a 6.7-inch Infinity-U display with built-in optical fingerprint sensor that allows you to sign into websites and apps by using biometric authentication as an easier and more secure way of logging-in and according to Samsung the design of the phone allows for a better grip of it. It will be available in four colors: blue, black, white, or coral that also provides a prism effect depending on the light and reflections bouncing off the phone.

For the camera, the Galaxy A70 has 32 MP cameras in both the front and rear with additional 5MP depth-of-field and 8MP Ultra-Wide cameras on the back. Samsung described that the depth lens allows you to adjust the depth of field to focus before and after taking a shot so people can choose what and where they want to highlight. The Ultra-Wide Lens is supposed to allow you to enjoy photos that mirror the same viewing angle as the human eye.

Inside of the phone, the Galaxy A70 is run on a six-core Snapdragon 675 processor, 6GB of RAM, and a 4500mAh battery with 25W Fast Charging. It has an internal memory of 128 GB, but can be upgraded to 512 GB with a Micro SD card.

The Galaxy A70 also features Samsung’s One UI platform, which includes such features as one-handed navigation, night mode, and App Timer that gives visibility over your screen usage levels. You can view our cases and accessories for the Galaxy A70 by clicking this link.
