With 5G phones being the top trend in the smartphone market, it was only a matter of time before Oppo phones went 5G. The tech powerhouse has so far offered users several 5G-enabled phones.
The newer ones in this line being the Oppo A54 5G and the Oppo A74 5G, which are part of the manufacturer’s A series. These were released in April 2021.
Which one has an edge above the other? First, let’s look at these two phones side by side to get a clearer picture.
Oppo A54 5G vs. Oppo A74 5G
These handsets are available in Australia at $399 for the A54 5G and $449 for the A74 5G.
Similarities
Both phones are on the same GSM/HSPA/LTE/5G network. The phones are similar in size and rather difficult to tell apart.
They share the same dimensions at 162.9 × 74.7 × 8.4 mm (6.41 × 2.94 × 0.33 in). Both weigh 190 grams as well.
You also get the same display type and resolution with either phone.
The phones have an LTPS IPS LCE 90Hz with 480 nits. The screen is more than adequate at 6.5 inches by 102cm2, offering an 83.8% screen-to-body ratio.
Whether you are big on gaming or streaming, the 1080 ×2400 pixels at a 20:9 ratio will undoubtedly deliver an enjoyable experience.
The A54 and A74 run on similar platforms; Android 11 and ColorOS 11.1. The same goes for their uniform Qualcomm SM4350 and Snapdragon 480 5G. The phone’s CPUs and GPUs are similar as well. With a 480 processor on both, you expect fast navigation and access to 5G, which is the new kid on the block.
Their main front cameras are similar as well, with 48MP, both feature panorama and LED flash. Users also get similar video specs at 1080p @ 30fps. Both also offer powerful 16MP selfie cameras with panorama.
The battery on both is a 5000 mAh Li-Po non-removable battery.
Another rather cool feature on both versions is the side fingerprint sensor. Sensors have moved around quite a bit, with traditional ones located at the front before moving to the back. The A54 and A74 are among the premier phones having the fingerprint sensor on the side.
Differences
With the different price points, some differences are also expected.
The first one is the capacity. The A74 comes with a larger memory of 128GB and 6GB RAM. Its counterpart has 64GB and 4GB RAM. Both have a micro SD slot.
Their colors differ as well. You will get the A74 in space silver and fluid black. The Oppo A54 comes in fluid black, space silver, and fantastic purple.
The phone’s SIM options differ as well. The slightly pricier A74 is a dual SIM with a Nano-SIM and dual standby. On the other hand, the A54 is a single SIM phone, and users have to choose either the Nano SIM or Dual SIM.
Oppo A54 or Oppo A74?
Which one comes out on top?
As you can see, the minimal differences are reflective of the differences in cost as well. Both phones will handle equally well for most users, save for those with higher memory and storage requirements.
There is no catch on either pick; you will get an exceptional phone at great value!
