The C5 is a Nokia candybar handset. The Next G version of this handset has been awarded Telstra’s blue tick meaning better coverage in rural areas. The C5 is available in white, which features a metallic silver band running around the unit’s sides or in a shade described as warm-grey.
The keys are a large size and the C5 has a decent sized dialling display with font size and sharpness being helped by the TFT display. The keypad is a snap to use having larger keys than the Nokia 6120. The navigation pad is also larger and the 2.2-inch TFT display works well providing sharp and vibrant displays.
The C5 will accept microSD memory cards, has a 3.2 megapixel camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, micro-USB for data transfer and a 2mm charging port topside.
There is also a forward facing VGA camera for video calling. Conference calling for up to three parties, voice dialling and smart dialling are available on the Nokia C5.
Nokia includes a 2GB microSD card with the C5 and on this memory card is the installation file for the Ovi Suite program, meaning you won’t have to download this file separately saving your included data usage for Facebook updates and basic internet browsing should you so desire.
The main menu is thankfully similar to most Nokia mobiles meaning if you’ve used a Nokia recently the layout will be very familiar. Searching for contacts, sending sms messages and setting profiles on the C5 is dead easy.
The C5 has a basic 3.2 mragpixel camera that lets you take photos and video recordings while the built-in LED flash has a range of about 1.5m.
Call quality is good on the C5 good though in very noisy environments it was difficult to hear the other person on the call which is to be expected. The Nokia C5’s battery is rated for 12 hours of talk time and Nokia quotes up to a massive 26 days on standby.
If you’re looking for a good basic handset with some extra internet and smartphone features the Nokia C5 is worthy of consideration. The handset is neat, compact and an affordable device and with its bluetick is a reception maximiser.
