Telstra has announced the launch their first Long Term Evolution (LTE) or 4G mobile broadband device that will opearate on eisting 850MHz as well as LTE 1800MHz bands in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney by the end of August 2011.
This fast 4G mobile technology will help meet Telstra customers’ ever increasing demand for faster mobile broadband speeds. And will also provide more network capacity.
Originally announced in February Telstra will offer to its business customers mobile broadband USB modems that are LTE and 3G HSPA compatible to from the 29th August. These usb modems will operate on 1800MHz as well as 850MHz and due to their dual mode nature will fall back to 3G HSDPA coverage in areas that are outside LTE coverage.
Telstra’s LTE customers will notice significant performance inbcreases with less lag, due to improved latency of the LTE network.
Telstra’s consumer customers will have access to LTE devices and services later in the year as the LTE network will be extended to all capital cities across Australia, as well as a number of major regional centres.
