Telstra has announced today 13/12/2011 that its customers will be the first in Australia to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone which goes on sale from select Telstra stores and online tomorrow 14/12/2011. The Telstra media release also states that Other Telstra stores and Telstra partners (including JB Hi-Fi and Fone Zone) across Australia will commence selling the Galaxy Nexus from this Thursday 15 December 2011.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus is the first smartphone to feature Google’s new Android 4.0 operating system, known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Ice Cream Sandwich will bring an entirely new look and feel to the Android operating system.

The Galaxy Nexus is a super-thin device with an extremely vivid 4.65-inch HD Super AMOLED display and will be an ideal device to experience Google’s most intuitive version of the Andriod operating system so far.

The Galaxy Nexus has the following features:

  • Smile to unlock your phone: Android 4.0 has facial recognition technology lets you unlock you mobile phone just by smiling at it.
  • You are able to switch between apps with a dedicated ‘recent apps’ button and quickly dismiss those you don’t need with the swipe of your finger.
  • Using NFC technology, Android Beam allows sharing of contacts, web pages, YouTube videos, directions, and apps just by touching two NFC-enabled Android phones back to back.
