Do you have an Apple 5W USB power adapter, Australia vesion that needs to be replaced? Are you looking to buy iPhone charger but aren't sure which one would suit you best? Then read on and learn about different iPad and iPhone chargers in Australia. With the debut of the iPhone 5 the Lightning connector replaced the 30-pin connector found on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod since 2003. The Lightning connector is used for charging the device as well as syncing content and data and audio and video output.
Lightning has been the replacement power connector for the iPhone since 2012 and the advent of the iPhone 5. The 8 pin connector replaced the old school larger 30 pin connector and is now used with all later model iPhones, iPads and iPods.
Although it annoyed many at launch, due to customers having to replace all their old iphone cables and accessories, we've come to love it as it provides an easy interface for any time your phone needs to be charged or plugged in to your computer, TV or other peripheral.
Your iOS device now comes standard with a Lightning charger, allowing you to plug in to charge your device. Apart from the standard packaged charger, you can get fast chargers, travel chargers, car chargers, as well as lightning to USB which provides both a charging function as well as data transfer function to your PC or Mac. Pretty much everything you've ever been able to plug your iphone into will now have a Lightning adaptor.
The USB-mini connector - what you see usually used with Android devices - can be very fiddly to insert. The Apple's new connector seeks to address this by an easy-to-use port. The micro-USB connectors also make it easier to drop the phone while charging, which makes leaves your phone more open to damage. The physical design of the Lightning makes it a far superior choice.
Lightning works with the following devices: iPhone 5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6 Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XS, XR, XS Max, iPod Touch 5, iPod Nano 7, iPad 4, ipad Mini, iPad Mini with Retina Display, iPad Mini 3, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, ipad Pro, iPad 2017. It is expected that the new connector will continue to be used for iPhone Chargers in many future models to come. The USB-C port on iPad Pro 11 inch and iPad Pro 12.9 inch (3rd generation) is used to charge the device, power other devices, and connect to accessories.
The new Macbook connector port, funnily enough, Apple have called the Thunderbolt. It provides a similar multi-function port for a variety of different connections, including Thunderbolt to HDMI and Thunderbolt to Ethernet.
MFi is an Apple licensing program that provides support to companies wishing to use their hardware in new designs. This means, that if a company wants to make a new charger for example, Apple provide the support needed to build it. When the product has also been made Apple certified you can be assured that it is up to Apple's standards.
If you choose a charger or cable without these stringent requirements you may be putting yourself at risk when it comes to voiding device warranties by using the cord. The best way to ensure you pick up a quality Lightning cord or accessory is to ensure it is MFi and Apple certified. More about MFI Program.
In a word, yes. You know how sometimes you're plugged in to charge with one cord, and it goes super quick, whereas another you have to leave it in overnight? Yeah. All chargers work at different speeds. If your device is capable of faster speeds, a higher amplitude, or amps of the charger, will give you a quicker connection speed.
All of our chargers carry Australian Safety Standards approvals and when you are charging iPhone worth around one thousand dollars paying a little bit extra for an Australian safety standards certified charger just makes sense and is a lot safer.
Apple introduced wireless charging in the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. When you buy a wireless iPhone charger you can enjoy an effortless way to charge your iPhone 8 and later iPhones. To charge all you need to do is place your iPhone down on your wireless charging pad and enjoy wireless charging.
Buy an iPhone fast charger (as Apple only includes a fast charger with the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Max) and you can take advantages of fast charging with an iPhone 8 or later. Recharge an iPhone to 50 percent battery in 30 minutes. This fast charging capability provides a quick way to charge an iPhone 8 or later model. The iPhone will fast charge up to 50 percent in 30 minutes when you use an compatible USB-C (USB Type-C) to Lightning cable with a USB-C power adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD). YOu can read more on Apple's website.

Apple makes chargers that have different output types, these are rated in terms of their power output in Watts (W). These are iPhone charger rates are listed below:
The power adapters of 12W and below (12W, 10W and 5W) all have a USB A connector even the 12W iPad charger as 2.1 Amps or 12W is the maximum output of USB A so any power adapter/charger the is greater than 12W uses USB C as USB Type C, as it is also known, has the ability to deliver much higher power outputs.
So what is the fastest way to charge iPhones? And what iPhone charger amps do I need? Well this well depend on what model you have. iPhone XR charging and iPhone XR Qi charging (wireless) are different ways to charge and both have advantages. But using a fast charger with the iPhone XR will charge it more quickly than using a fast charger with an iPhone 6, fast charging is not available for the iPhone 6 and your best bet would be to charge your iPhone 6 with a 12W charger. If you want to use fast charging on your iPhone you will need to buy an iPhone fast charger, which consists of an 18W or higher power adapter and a fast charging USB PD capable Ligntning cable. Confused? Read on and you'll learn more about iPhone battery charging.
The standard iPhone charger is a 5W charger. The standard 5W charger included with the iPhone (except the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro max) is very slow. No matter which phone you are charging, the 5W charger will takes over 2 hours to charge your iPhone up to 85 percent of full battery charge. The 5W charger uses a standard Lightning cable (USB A to Lightning).
iPad chargers (with the exception of iPad Pro 11-inch and iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) these use USB C chargers) are more powerful and charger at a faster rate. They are rated at 10W or 12W. Charging iPhone with iPad charger makes good sense. Using a 10W or 12W charger is much faster than the 5W adapter and this will work with all iPhones and iPads. This does not require a new cable unlike fast charging. The 10W and 12W chargers use a standard Lightning cable (USB A to Lightning).
iPhone fast chargers use the Apple 18W (however not all iPhones that can fast charge are supplied with a fast charger) power adaptor. The 18W charger is a USB C charger. The Lightning cable to a USB C to Lightning cable.
Apple also has Apple 29W, 30W, 61W, and 87W USB-C power adapters, these are Mac notebook power adapters and can be used to charge your iPhone. These chargers are USB C chargers. The Lightning cable they use is a USB C to Lightning cable.
You are able use any Apple USB power adapter (of Apple certified MFi charger) for your iPad and Mac notebooks to charge your iPhone and other Apple products without causing damage.
Using a 10W or 12W charger to charge your iPhone will certainly see it charger more quickly than the standard 5W charger. This has been tested by many third parties. If you want to charge your iPhone 5 to iPhone 7 and 7 Plus more quickly use a 10W or 12W charger.
So which iPhones fast charge? If you have an iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max your phone will fast charge. If you want to charge an iPhone 8 and above at the fastest rate possible use an iPhone fast charger. iPhone fast chargers use a C94 Lightning Connector. Anyone wanting to take advantage of fast charging on the iPhone, or quicker charging on their iPads, needs to use an MFi or an Apple USB-C Lightning cable.
To fast charge an iPhone that has fast charging you will need an 18W or higher charger or a compatible USB Type C charger with USB-PD (USB Power Delivery, this is also referred to as PD or Power Delivery). You'll also need a USB-PD Lightning cable (don't worry we have these). iPhone fast charging uses USB-PD specification not the Quick Charge standard which was developed by Qualcomm. You don't need Qualcomm quick charge 3.0, iPhone fast charging uses USB Power Delivery but some charging cables are compatible with Qualcomm quick charge and USB-PD.
No matter what iPhone or power adapter is used, the charging rates become very slow after about 85 to 90 percent. This is to protect your phone and to prevent damage to the battery from overcharging.
The Apple iPhone charger, Australia versions are the same as the rest of the world, from the iPhone 5 to the iPhone 11 Apple include a 5W charger with their iPhones. It is only with the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max that Apple includes an 18W fast charger. The Australian chargers are manufactured to meet Australian safety standards.
So if you need a replacement charger for your iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max and you want your device to charge at the fast rate that you are used to you will need a fast charger. Buying a lower power rated charger will still work but it will take longer to recharge your iPhone's battery.
Apple has included with the iPad different USB power adaptors with differnt iPad models. The iPad 4th Gen and upwards use the Lightning connector. This is a list of which power adaptor Apple included with each iPad model:
So which iPhones wireless charge? The first iphone with wireless charging was the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. The iPhone 8 and later models have wireless charging capability. This includes the following models:
Apple does not include a wireless charger as standard with any of their devices. iPhones use the Qi wireless charging standard. Wireless charging will charge an iPhone with the latest version of iOS at rates up to 7.5 watts so it is slower to charge than using a 10W or higher charger but it is quicker than 5W chargers. Currently all iPhones that have a glass back that work with wireless chargers as wireless charging will not work with a metal back. We often are asked, "Will wireless charging with Otterbox Defender case work?" The answer is: Yes, wireless charging works through most cases even an Otterbox Defender thick case. Cases with any metal in them may inhibit the iPhone's wireless charging.
To wirelessly charge your iPhone follow the below steps:
iPhones will not wirelessly charge when connected to USB. Should an iPhone be connected to a computer with USB, or have a USB charger plugged in, the iPhone will charge using the USB connection not using wireless charging.
When your iPhone gets a notification or sms alert , it may vibrate and shift its position. This may cause the charging stand, charging mat or charging cradle to stop charging the iPhone. Should you find that this frequently happens turn off vibration.
Use a case that is wireless charging compatible (all of our cases are wireless charging compatible). If the iPhone is charging at a slow rate or not charging at and your iPhone has a battery case, a thick metal case, remove the case and try again.
Depending on the type of wireless charging stand or mat that you use, there may be faint noises while your iPhone charges. This is nothing to be concerned about according to Apple.
All of our chargers as well as the MFi lightning cable, Australia safety standards approved. So you know they are fully compatible with your Apple products and being Australian Saftey Appproved are safe too. You can buy an iPad cable and iPhone cables from us with confidence in their quality and safety.
We have other types of phone chargers, including USB chargers, USB Type C chargers, micro USB chargers, wireless chargers, portable chargers and more.
