The HTC 10 is here! And it is one of the most impressive smartphones on the market. Comparable to Samsung's flagship Galaxy model, and Apple's iPhone, the HTC 10 is a high performance phone that is a top choice for those that need something for gaming, work, high-quality photo and video, or app switching.
Released in May, 2016, the HTC 10 has been billed as one of the best smartphones available on the market. Following on from the HTC One M9 and HTC One A9, you'll firstly notice that HTC have dropped the letter from the smartphone model - signalling a big change in the model, which it is.
You can grab it for just over $1000AUD via selected retailers, or purchase though a service provider on one of their plans - we recommend shopping around to find the best deal.
While the One M9 was a sore disappointment for many, the 10 steps up to the plate and gives us what we were really looking for in the One M9. Firstly, the design of the phone is simply stellar - it looks beautiful and stylish, not clunky at all.
It comes in either Glacier Silver or Carbon Grey in Australia, and with a fully metal shell (without a glass exterior for fingerprint smudges) it gives that luxe feel that has become standard for top-tier smartphones. The rounded back means it is 3 mm at its thinnest, and 9 mm at its widest, so it fits in your hand perfectly. The screen itself, of course, is reinforced glass - Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to be exact.
At 5.2 inches, the screen is large enough for all the activities you're going to be doing. The dimensions of the phone are 145.9 mm x 71.9 mm x 9 mm, and it weighs 161g.
The phone has a fingerprint sensor as standard, and along with the Home button at the bottom, you've also got a Back button and a Recent button, too.
In terms of cameras, the HTC 10's is classified as the best in the world when it comes to Android devices alongside the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. In what HTC calls a 'Next generation camera', the handset offers optical image stabilization in both the rear and the front cameras - a first for any smartphone.
With a 12MP rear camera, and 5MP front facing camera, HTC have fine-tuned the camera internals for high performance photo and video.
It's also billed as a camera that excels in low light situations, something the iPhone 6S also offers. This is due to a combination of the UltraPixel sensor, with 12 million UltraPixels, and a f/1.8 lens.
As for the front camera, it boasts a f/1.8 wide angle lens, along with a much-needed flash, and, as mentioned, optical image stabilization, for the perfect selfie.
For videos, the HTC 10 shoots in 4K, and with 24-bit high resolution audio, you can grab great clips from concerts and the like without sacrificing audio quality.
The phone comes in either a 32GB or 64GB model (although both sizes aren't available at all retailers), with a microSD slot that can allow an extra 2TB of data - perfect for if you're shooting video.
The device has the omnipresent Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 Quad-core 64 bit chip with 4Gb of RAM on board to power the device. This sort of processing power means you're not going to have to wait for things to load, making it far more responsive than previous HTC iterations.
You might remember the One M9s terrible battery life - thankfully this has been given the flick in favour of a 3000mAH battery which can give you 12+ hours of continuous video playback - pretty impressive, and very useful!
Past the required spare AC Mains chargers, what else do you need to get the most out of your HTC 10?
Have you thought about what you;re going to do with your phone in the car? If you like to use your smartphone to get directions, you're going to want a car saver charger, a car stereo integrator kit and a Bluetooth car kit if your vehicle isn't Bluetooth enabled, a car cradle so that you can read those directions, and possibly an antenna to extend your range if you're driving into places with a patchy signal.
Apart from car accessories, other handy items include a portable power bank in case you run out of batteries while away from a power outlet, a microSD card to expand your phone's memory (or a handful of them!), a data cable, and a leather pouch to keep it protected.
Other items you can pick up might be a USB speaker, and a good set of headphones, if you are a bit of an audiophile, and wacky cases if you like to show off your personality!
